Karim Lekadir

Dr. Karim Lekadir is Director of the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Lab at the Universitat de Barcelona (BCN-AIM). He holds a PhD from Imperial College London (UK) and was previously a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stanford University (USA). His research focuses on the development of data science and machine learning approaches for large-scale biomedical data, including imaging, biological, clinical, lifestyle and mobile data. He is the Scientific Coordinator of several EU research projects related to big data and artificial intelligence: euCanSHare (2018-2022) which has developed a big data platform for cardiovascular personalised medicine; EarlyCause (2019-2023), which investigates multi-morbidity by combining experimental and data science approaches; and EuCanImage (2020-2024), which is building a federated artificial intelligence environment for precision medicine in oncology. He is General Chair for the MICCAI 2024 Conference (Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention) which will take place in Africa for the first time. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics and of the IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging.
