EXPERT WORKSHOP ON AI FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Venue: Pavilion Spain (Multipurpose room)

Date and Time: 16th March 2022 – 14:00-16:00 GST/11:00-13:00 CET

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can contribute to reaching the European Green deal targets and global Sustainable Development Goals in various ways. This can be, for example, through a more efficient use of scarce resources, prediction and management of environmental impacts, optimisation of production processes, and policy foresight ideas. A global value-based conversation is needed to address the opportunities as well as implications of AI for sustainability and the green transition.

During this workshop a number of renowned international experts will explore the role of AI to support the green transition and will showcase example of EU research to promote the EU vision to promote sustainable and trustworthy AI in the world. As the implications of new digital technologies such as AI transcend borders, the EU seeks cooperation with like-minded countries and the broader multi-stakeholder community and will support a human-centric approach to AI.

EXPERT WORKSHOP ON AI FOR HEALTH

Venue: Pavilion Spain (Multipurpose room)

Date and Time: 16th March 2022 – 17:00-19:00 GST/14:00-16:00 CET

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare offers great promise. It can help ease the administrative burden on the healthcare system, optimise the use of scarce healthcare resources and improve clinical trials. AI applications like the analysis of health images can among other things accelerate the discovery of new medicines or support the clinical treatment decisions of healthcare staff while AI-powered robotics can free human resources for patient care. The global health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted AI applications used in the detection and analysis of infections, for instance AI-assisted chest tomography, or by analysing data used for the development of vaccines.

This workshop aims to display practical examples of European AI excellence in the healthcare sector and discuss with international experts the practical implications of AI in healthcare, including how to ensure that these technologies are developed with adequate consideration for their social and ethical aspects. The EU is among the global leaders in the use of AI in healthcare, and its priority is to put human beings at the centre. International collaboration can maximise the potential benefits of AI in healthcare while minimising its potential risks. It can amplify the efficiency and value of responses and secure their sustainability. For example, exchanging health data across borders can help combat pandemics and other diseases, but it has to be done in a way that complies with data protection legislation, guarantees privacy and follows well-considered data governance arrangements.
